If you may not have known, the Jets traded their 13th overall pick and a 3rd rounder for the 24th pick and being able to keep their roster intact which meant Vegas took UFA Chris Thorburn.

Even after moving down nine spots, the Jets were still able to make a very strong pick in Kristian Vesalainen. The Jets picked a big, 6’3″, 207-pound winger who has a wicked shot and likes to use his body on the ice. His shot has a very quick release which helps teams generate many scoring opportunities. Now, who may Vesalainen remind you of? Probably the other Finish prodigy on the Jets named Patrik Laine. Obviously, Vesalainen won’t be producing goals anywhere near the way Laine does, but having both of them on the same team should really be exciting for Jets fans. Also like Laine, he is much more offensive than defensive.

With a few more years of good development, Vesalainen will be yet another successful pick who can provide the Jets with more firepower to their heavily loaded future team.

Stay tuned for more prospect reports…
