Linards Feldbergs – The Latvian Goalie

Linards Feldbergs – The Latvian Goalie

Coaching goalies is about more than just teaching skills or preparing for games. It’s about understanding the hard work and sacrifices that go into success. Yesterday, Latvia had an incredible game, and Linards Feldbergs was at the center of it. He faced over 55 shots against Team Canada, one of hockey’s top teams, and let in just two goals. His performance helped his team pull off a big overtime win.

As one Latvian goalie once told me, "It’s the Latvian way." Feldbergs showed exactly what that means, standing strong behind teammates who gave everything to block shots and play together. They weren’t just playing for themselves but for their country.

The Journey to success

I met Linards this summer when we picked him in the CHL Import Draft. From the start, he was ready to work hard and chase his dreams. Behind a performance like yesterday’s are hours of practice, hundreds of hours of video sessions, and focusing on the little things that make a big difference.

Linards has worked on reading plays and taking better decisions, controlling his depth, tracking the puck, managing games better, and playing the puck effectively. These are skills that take time and patience to improve, and Linards has put in the effort to get better every day.

Big sacrifices, bigger goals

Moving from Latvia to play in North America’s junior leagues wasn’t easy for Linards. He left his family, friends, and home to take this step. It shows how committed he is to reaching the next level. Whether it’s time in the gym, video sessions, or extra work on the ice, Linards puts in the effort to keep improving.

What stands out most about him is his attitude. He’s always smiling, always ready to learn, and willing to do whatever it takes. He’s not just a great goalie—he’s a great teammate and person too.

Making it count

Yesterday’s game was a big moment for Linards Feldbergs. It was a chance to show the hockey world what he can do. While it’s just one game, it’s a reminder of what hard work and perseverance can achieve.

Lenny, keep doing what you’re doing. The road isn’t easy, but moments like these make it all worth it. Keep playing the game you love, and good things will keep coming your way.
